Getting Started: Registration and Participation Support

We know you may have questions about how to register, take part in online activities, or troubleshoot an issue from time to time. This page brings together answers to the most common questions about registering, logging in, and participating on the site.

If you’re new here, it’s the best place to start. If you’re a returning user, you can quickly find what you need and get back to having your say.

What is Have Your Say Tiaki Wai?

Have Your Say Tiaki Wai is our online community engagement site. This is where you can help inform decision-making by sharing your ideas or feedback on a variety of projects. You can also get updates on projects and hear about how your input has contributed to decisions.

All Tiaki Wai projects that require community engagement are guided by our Significance and Engagement Policy.

Can I have my say as soon as I have completed the registration form?

Once you have completed the registration form, you will receive an activation email that includes a verification code to enter to confirm your account. Alternatively, you can also click the verification link included, which is valid for 24 hours. Once complete, you can then log in using the screen name and password you’ve just set. If you haven't received the activation email after a while, check your spam folder or send us an email at haveyoursay@metrowaterwellington.co.nz.

If you have hit register via a tool (for example, a survey), the registration form will appear as a pop-up and will redirect you to the tool once registration is complete.

Why do I need to register to participate in certain engagement opportunities?

Registration is quick and easy and will make it easier for you to participate in projects that interest you. We ask for your name and email address and a few other details such as location so that we can better understand who we're hearing from and make sure we get a broad cross section of our community. It also ensures discussions and results are not manipulated by someone leaving multiple comments to support their own position.

However, some engagement opportunities such as quick polls and surveys may not require registration.

How does being a registered user benefit me?

Registration will give you full access to the site and allows us to email you when a new project, or project update is added.

Knowing a little more about who you are helps us understand who we are hearing from. It also helps us to target feedback from specific groups (e.g. different localities) and in-turn will provide a richer and more valuable data to help Tiaki Wai make decisions.

As a registered participant, you can also save your survey responses and return later to complete them. Registration also lets you keep track of where you’ve participated, making it easy to manage your involvement over time.

What happens to my feedback/comments?

The community's input is used to inform Tiaki Wai decision making processes for the development of strategies, policies, projects and activities.

Is my feedback anonymous and is my privacy protected?

For transparency, your feedback may be published as part of reporting, however, we respect your privacy and all identifying information will be removed and your feedback kept anonymous.

Tiaki Wai will only use your email to contact you with updates and to invite you to participate in consultations. Your email address will not be distributed to any third party or used for any other purposes. In the matter of posting on a public discussion board only your username will be listed next to the comment.

More information is available in our Privacy Policy.
