Tiaki Wai wants to hear from you about what work we should prioritise, as we deliver better drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services for our region.
Background
Tiaki Wai is responsible for delivering safe drinking water to homes and businesses, for removing wastewater, treating it and discharging it to sea, and for some built infrastructure that helps move stormwater away from populated areas to streams, rivers and coastlines.
The water infrastructure that Tiaki Wai owns and manages on behalf of our region is in very poor condition, with significant upgrades, repairs and expansion required. This will cost many billions of dollars, so we need to prioritise when we do it to spread the cost over many years.
We will use what you tell us here to help build our next draft Water Services Strategy. This will be our plan for the work we will do over the next 30 years from 2027 – 2057, with a focus on the first ten years.
This survey should take less than five minutes to complete.
What Happens Next?
Over the coming months, we will be taking what you've told us here, as well as other information including the legal and regulatory requirements we have to follow, what our Council owners and Mana Whenua partners expect from us, and the things that are most critical to fix in our infrastructure, to build a draft Water Services Strategy.
In March 2027, we will have a full consultation on the draft Strategy, including through online feedback, webinars and public meetings. If you provide us with your email address when filling out this survey, we will let you know when that consultation begins.
